Pressing your fabric is an incredibly important step when you are working on any sewing project. No matter how nice yourJanome sewing machine is, if you don’t take the proper steps to prepare your fabric, you won’t be happy with the end result. How do you press your projects the like a pro? The following guide will help:
- Know the difference between ironing and pressing- Many people think ironing and pressing are the same thing, but if you iron your fabric instead of press it, you will get a very different result. To clarify, ironing is when you move the iron back and forth, while pressing is setting the iron down, pressing the fabric, then lifting it up again to do a new section –no back and forth motion involved. Ironing can easily distort the fabric that you are working on, pressing can get you a similar result as ironing, without a risk of distortion.
- Use the right tools- No two projects are exactly the same, and one iron won’t necessarily work for everything. Pick the right tool for the project you are working on. If you are looking to press a curved area, you will need a pressing ham, and if you are pressing a tight space, you will need a presser bar.
The above tips are just a couple of the many things that you should know if you want to learn to press like a pro. To learn more, please stay tuned for our next blog!
