It’s that time of the year! It’s cold out, and most of us would love to spend our time indoors cuddling under a warm quilt. This is the perfect time of the year to create a beautiful quilt that you can snuggle with all winter long, and the good news is that you can do it with your favorite Janome sewing machine! The following is our list of tips for quilting with a sewing machine:
- Make some space- Quilting fabric can be quite heavy, and if you let it hang off of the side of a table or your sewing machine, the gravity can drag your quilt down, which could prevent you from making even stitches. That is why you need to give yourself plenty of space to create. Start with a clear dining room table or ensure that your sewing machine table is large enough to get the job done.
- Get comfortable- It takes a lot of focus to keep your quilt in the right position, which can lead to hunching and shrugging –this kind of position will make you sore and uncomfortable very quickly. Do what you can to sit up higher. This will force you to keep your arms and shoulder at a lower, more comfortable position.
- Start small- You don’t have to start with a full-sized quilt! Start with a baby blanket or even a pot holder. These kinds of projects allow you to get comfortable with quilting before you sit down to create a full-on adult quilt.
