In our previous blog, we talked about a few of the many supplies that you will need to purchase in order to be a successful sewer. We talked about stocking your sewing machine table with fabric markers, a seam ripper, and plenty of needles for both hand sewing and your sewing machine. The following is a list of the last few items that you will need to have in order to sew like a pro!:
- Pins- Pins are essential when it comes to sewing. You will want to ensure that you have lots of safety pins, as well as the pins with the colored plastic ball on the top. Pins can easily get lost or damaged, and chances are, you will probably use a lot more than you think you will. Make sure that you buy more than you think you will need.
- Pin storage- Now that you have a whole lot of pins, you need somewhere to put them all! A pin cushion will help you keep the pins that you are using easily reachable and off of the ground. You could also invest in a magnetic bowl, which are generally used for nuts and bolts, but they work well for pins as well!
- Extra bobbins- Make sure that you have plenty of bobbins before you start a project. There is nothing that is quite as frustrating as running out of a color while you are in the middle of completing a seam. You can never have too many bobbins around!
- An iron and an ironing board- Even if you have figured out a way to successfully avoid ironing any of your clothes, you will need an iron and an ironing board for sewing. You will need it to press seams open, press fabric, press hems, and so much more! Do yourself a favor by investing in a good one right off the bat!
