To recap, we talked about giving yourself plenty of space to work with, starting small, and sitting up tall. The following is a list of a few more tips for quilting with your sewing machine:
- Choose a simple design- When you have gotten comfortable quilting with smaller projects, like pot holders and baby blankets, you are now ready for a bigger projects, just remember to keep it simple. You will be much more likely to be successful and love your finished project if you start with something that is doable for beginners. Look for patterns with large squares or pre-cuts that you can sew together at the end.
- Educate yourself before you get started- If you have the time, it is always a great idea to take a class before you start a new project like quilting. Your teacher will be able to give you lots of valuable tips and tricks for quilting that you won’t find anywhere else. No time for a class? Watch a few video tutorials on Youtube!
- Make quilts for yourself- Quilts can make great gifts for others, but until you are comfortable with the process, you may just want to make your own. This will give you lots of practice, and it will give you a chance to develop your own techniques before you start making quilts for others.
